Fire alarm systems detect a fire and warn people. Fire fighting systems control or extinguish it. A course in both teaches you how each is designed, how they connect, and which codes govern the layout.
Fire alarm systems
Detectors, manual call points, sounders and the control panel that ties them together. You learn device selection and spacing, zoning, cabling and cause-and-effect.
Fire fighting systems
Sprinklers, hose reels, hydrants and landing valves fed by a fire pump set and water tank. You learn hazard classification, sprinkler layout, pipe sizing and pump selection.
The codes
Designs follow recognised standards such as NFPA and the local civil defence requirements. A course should teach you to find and apply the relevant clauses, because rules are updated.
Who it suits
Mechanical engineers on the fire fighting side, electrical and ELV engineers on the alarm side, and MEP coordinators who need both. See fire alarm and fire fighting systems training.

Frequently asked questions

Who approves fire system designs in Dubai?
Designs are submitted to the civil defence authority through approved consultants and contractors.
Is this course suitable for safety officers?
It helps them understand the systems, though their role focuses on operation and compliance rather than design.
